‘Thoughts on Symbolism & Ancient Architecture from the Peten region of Guatemala.’
The Peten region has long since been considered the spiritual origin of the Itza Maya people, and in the nearby jungle, some of the oldest and largest Maya monuments are being excavated, pushing back the origin dates of the Maya culture.
Some of the largest and most complex pyramids are found deep within the jungle, and already indicate advanced understanding of the kinds of astrology and time keeping that became hallmarks of the Maya culture at its peak.
This essay explores the two neighbouring sites of La Danta and Tikal through the conceptual lens of philosophers, Henri Bergson and Gilles Deleuze, in relation to their theory of time, perception and memory.
