The Jōmon people are a diverse and distinctive culture, known for having the world's oldest continuous ceramic tradition. Believed to be a foundational culture of Japan’s indigenous populations, their influence extends across the Eurasian continent, evident in the artefacts and symbols associated with ancient ‘fertility cults’ - most notably through the reverence of the ‘goddess’ figure known as Dogū, or the 'Venus of the Jōmon.'
